Yuck that's just wrong......
Hopefully it was a one-off prototype.
I'm going to post this here as most will say its ugly. its for sale on Ebay atm, if I had 2.5 K it would be mine! I'll be looking for a cheaper one in April when I'm in Japan. Its a Firstman Liverpool from the early 70's

Yes! THat's yummy....
Looks like something used for chopping off peoples heads. Definitely medieval.
Reminds me of Megatrons axe/sword from the latest Transformers movie!

@ Dedman That guitar isn't ugly per se, it actually has a kind of coolness about it, sort of like Paul McCartney's Hofner Violin Bass, but then maybe I'm too much of a traditionalist.
Given how whippy SG necks are, having a couple of inches of extra support probably seemed like a good idea at the time. And it probably still had better upper fret access than a Les Paul. I think it's the top half of the scratch plate that ruins it as it doesn't run with the body curve like the bottom half does.
Would never buy it and if received as a gift, might get played once but then re-gifted or stowed away in a dark, dark place never to be seen again.

Gibson seems to have collectively lost their freakin mind with their 2017 'budget' line. Hideous.
I hate to imagine what Gibson's idea of "Budget" priced guitars is.
It's got a Gibson website price of $599. The Fusion SGs are listed at $699, which equates to a price in Andertons of £399 (plus a free Tone City pedal), so in theory the Firebird zero would be around £350, which is very budget for a Gibson with a nitro finish. The cheapest of this 'S' series is the M2 slab Les Paul style which they list at $499, so might sell at £299 (though it all depends on the price to the dealer). The pickups on the 'bird are US 'DS-C' (ceramics with double slugs - no screw poles). Probably not going to be the most detailed of pickups.
Currently £399 = A$666 dollars (which might tell you something ;) ) and £299 = A$499, though you'd undoubtedly pay a lot more.
Surprisingly they still have rosewood fingerboards, but have poplar bodies and maple necks.
That Firebird Zero looks quite retro, so they may sell quite a few of them if the quality was still OK. They come in a wide range of colours, and some of those other colours look quite good on it.

Looks like the type of guitar you buy to beat the designer around the head with.
Who remembers this monstrosity?

Well, it seems Davie504 got his hands on it and put up a video!

Apparently the lowest 5 strings are completely unplayable, not surprising considering they are so slack they touch each other. Wow.
If this guy plays it - it may look okay......

yeah Fretty/Ponch not much of a fan of the travelcaster, it's still going to need an almost full size case so not really a travelling axe. I'd much prefer a short scale chiquita axe for a travel axe - the case is only 29 inches long (737mm)

Not ugly IMO, but definitely out there. I am confused as to how I play it.

It would appear to be displayed in a contemporary art museum, therefore it's not meant to be a playable guitar.
Thanks for clearing that up.
You'd drive yourself mad while re-stringing and intonating every neck on that multi-necked guitar.
Yes, but its not meant to be played is it? Thanks again Simon for pointing that out, its now clear to me this is a 'no fun zone' and we must be completely literal and factual in all our postings.
The real challenge comes when looking for a case...
This one does my head in

A Lesplorerlock?
assorted weirdness
You know, these guitar makers come up with some truly bizarre ideas on what a guitar could look like, either that or I'm too much of a traditional Conservative....hahaha.
Yikes.. Some good ones there. I have to dig out some photos of a very strange bass guitar I restored back in the 90's. Came to me in pieces and looks a like a banana.
Actually never mind I found a photo online - not a bass - but looked exactly like this (the yellow one) - no trem arm and I had to make a new scratch plate for it. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3463/...40365689_o.jpg
Heres a bass version in blue... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...yamahabass.jpg
Ah, the Flying Samurai/Flying Banana. Apparently they play fantastically and are quite sought-after.
I had a friend at University (back in the early '80s) who had the bass version of the blue Yamaha guitar in the top photo of the three pictures. Seemed OK but I never had a chance to try it plugged in.
take a wonder through ESP Japan's custom shop and artist series....more weirdness than even I can handle.

Not sure if this is ugly, or bloody brilliant!
