looking good Doc !
Hope it all goes well, I needed to order some extra bits and pieces for my Strat build from Realtone Music, one of the bits I ordered was a 5-Position Tritan Pickup-Selector Switch because I didn't get one in my kit, also, there was a missing Strat Bridge screw, so I ordered two sets of six, as well as some vintage cloth wire, and a .1uF Paper In Oil Capacitor for the tone controls, I was lucky enough to have three good 250k Log CTS pots in amongst my bits and pieces so I didn't need to order any pots, when I get round to doing the soldering of the pickguard I'm going to include a mini-tutorial on soldering for those interested, there'll be pics included too.
So I'm waiting on the bits I ordered from Realtone Music and the three new ASN57 pickups, hopefully with those my build should be relatively noise-free.
Hey Dr,
Really enjoyed reading about your build so far.....
looking forward to the soldering tutorial and the sound clips....
Keep up the good work....
Here's a couple of new updates for you:
Firstly, I have just come back from doing some shopping for a new Memory Card for my Nikon A100 Digital Camera, I managed to buy a new Sandisk 16Gb SDHC Memory Card from the Winnellie Post Office for only $9.99, so now my Nikon A100 Digital Camera has heaps of memory space installed, that means I'll be able to shoot a demo video of my finished Strat for you guys.
Secondly, the Strat body feels dry to the touch, but I will give it a few more days to fully dry before applying one more coat of DT CG Final Coat (a total of three coats), and then once that last coat has fully dried I will call the finish work done and dusted.
Incidentally, the Strat body has taken on a bit of a glossy sheen, and is looking pretty good so far, might see if I can post a couple of more pics for you, so stay tuned.
Okay, here are the pics:

good one Doc, on the home stretch now. I'd give the final coats minimum 3 days curing between coats, more if you are patient
Cheers Wokka, yep, I totally understand the wisdom of being patient, I might just play it safe and give the very last coat of DT CG Final Coat a generous fortnight to dry, I'll see how the second coat of DT CG Final Coat is this coming Sunday, that's another four days from today.
good stuff Doc, DB recommends 3 full weeks curing after last coat before you can polish it.
Gives you plenty of time to do a fret level and get your headstock logo on
I'll have to invest in a good set of fret-leveling tools if I'm going to do any fret leveling, incidentally, when I did my last full mock-up build, I noticed that there was relatively very little fret-buzz on the neck that came with my Strat kit, but maybe I might do a fret level later on.
When it comes to do the polishing of the finish on the body, would I be able to get away with just using a small amount of Brasso on a clean rag, or should I really get some Automotive Cut and Polish, and Swirl Remover, assuming I do the polishing by hand?
Update:
I just got a notification in my email from Australia Post saying that my delivery from Adam is ready to be sent, that'll be for the three new Entwistle ASN57 Noiseless Pickups I've ordered for my Strat build....woohoo!!
Everything is really coming together now.
good one Doc. I've never used Brasso to polish a guitar but I know it works really well polishing frets. Give it a go on the body but I'd say automotive polish should give you a better shine and result
Doc, yeah worth running it by DB, I'd say he will recommend using automotive car polishes. By all means polish your frets with Brasso
I wouldnt use Brasso to polish a turd, i would spend a little cash and get something decent like Meguiar's or the like.
I actually found that 0000 grade Steel Wool is great for burnishing frets to a good shine too, you need to make sure the neck isn't installed on the guitar body though, otherwise you get Steel Wool particles in your pickups, been really liking what the application of Dingowax does to the fretboard, I've applied Dingowax to the fretboard of the Strat neck and the neck of my Ibby guitar, might do it to my LP Studio.
If you use 0000 Grade steel wool to burnish the frets to a good shine you need to give the neck a good brush to get rid of any residual Steel Wool particles.
agreed Doc superfine steel wool polishes frets nicely
Wot Tony sed re Brasso...
I have wet sanded DT up to 2500 and then buffed out the finish with a smear of Behlen de luxing compound..
But no reason why you couldnt use swirl remover to get that final shine.
IMPORTANT NOTE!!
DO NOT use any product that contains silicone on your guitar....
Finally, that axe is looking the biz :)
No worries, I won't use any Brasso on the Strat body, I'm really happy with the results I'm getting on the Strat body DB, thank you for convincing me to give Coolangatta Gold a go on my first guitar kit build, that goes for you too Wokka.
It's been a real fun experience doing the beta-testing, hope to do more in the future.
I use synthetic Steel wool for everything, frets and even down to final finishing before i get into with polish.

Update:
Just got another notification in my email saying that my order for the three new Entwistle ASN57 pickups is now complete....woohoo!!
I wasn't sure if the money-transfer had been processed, but there you go, all i have to do now is wait for them to turn up in the post.
It is good stuff.
The Sandpaper man in Brisvaugeness stocks it.

Doc, DB mentioned a TV yellow stain for his tele bass in the new thread, sure he can make one up for you.
You may want another colour with a gold strat
Oops, I think I might have missed that, I'll have to check that thread out, I know but when I first saw that TL-51 kit amongst the other Tele kits the first thing that popped into my mind was "I want to build one in TV Yellow, like the originals", I can always build another Tele in a different colour.
Update:
Just checked the postal tracking for the stuff I ordered from Realtone Music, and this is what the most recent tracking update says:
In transit
Processed through Australia Post facility 3:43pm Wed 30 Mar Winnellie, NT
From that it looks like I may be receiving the stuff I ordered from Realtone Music tomorrow.

I have been really happy with Realtone Music so far so they have secured my continued patronage.
I'm also really happy with Pitbull Guitars and the customer support has been nothing short of excellent so far, Adam and all the PBG staff should be very pleased to know that.
nice one Doc, the amount of detail you supply in your posts is off the chain haha
EDIT page 56, you will overtake Shazz's diary soon !
Lol, I figure that if the details I include in my posts are in any way at all useful to all PBG members, then I consider my job done well, who knows, there may be another PBG member wanting to build an STA-1M kit who's unsure of what else they may need for their build.
I'll just go see how many pages ShazzRandom's thread is on.
She's still on 59 pages, which means I have another three pages to go to catch up.
give it till the weekend Doc you will reach 60 pages piece of cake
by the way Andrew O (Ponch) mentioned his Doc told him to go on a low fat diet, are you his Doc Doc ? hahha
thought so Doc, you are a bit far from NSW Highway patrol LOL
hah Doc, Ponch stuck his head on the real Ponch of Chips (California Highway Patrol, 80's TV series) on his avatar.
Pest has just been a Pest since he joined the forum, he kept asking DB for more wudtone cause we thought he was drinking it !
Ha ha Ponch is almost back (need to find my previous avatar). Nearly put the Swannies one backup but that’s certainly pushing my luck after last weekend :)
Oh, I see now, I remember that 80's TV show, I thought you were all calling him Pest as a way to wind him up....lol.
I'm up to 56 pages now, only four more to go till I hit 60 pages.
I seem to remember catching a few episodes of Chips in the 80's, there were some great TV programs then, I remember how I used to stay up all night on Friday nights just to watch Rage during the 80's, some nights were average, some were kind of meh, others were real jems, also remember watching Blake's 7, a Sci-Fi TV program that was a bit like Star Trek.
ah good to have the Chips avatar back Ponch, you just need to find the old avatar or paintshop your head on Ponch !
