It was all done by mistake really. I used the DT stain and used too much and it turned out quite orange - much more than I wanted. The final coat also took much longer to dry than I wanted and I think I applied way too much in a short period of time. So, I sanded it back, covered it with several coats of Tru-Oil and that was the result. I'd do it differently next time of coarse, but it looks okay and quite unique.
I've put a few applications of a woodworking creme into the fretboard, but it still looks kinda dry. I'll get the luthier to rub some decent guitar oil into it when it gets set-up.
The MM build is well underway, but I have had trouble with the staining process on the body. The neck is looking good as you can see. (I just took that picture minutes ago.) I'll continue posting updates on that one over the next few days in the build thread. The thread is there maybe on the 2nd or 3rd page.
Cheers

The fact your daughter wants to play it is the most important thing. Perhaps a set of roller string trees may be offset enough to not, or slightly less, obscure the S.

Yes, those roller string trees would help, or you probably could move the string tree forward and fill in the hole. I've done it a couple of times and it's not that difficult to make the hole almost invisible unless you get really close.

It looks awesome anyway mate. Look the fact that it inspires her to play is the best gift of all.
A little secret though.....there are a bunch of little imperfections on all of my guitars that bug me.....

And every day there will some bumps and bruises added from general use and packing away in a gig bag or hard case. All adds to the character and story behind each guitar.

So it's finally finished!
I've had it set-up and it plays nice.
Thanks everyone for your kind words of encouragement. This forum was a great help. I have ended up with a nice axe.
now onto the next one.

I tried a burst once, and if it'd turned out half as good as yours it'd still be on the guitar instead of covered up.
Looks great!
