Loving the Bear Claw marks in the top! It's hard to believe how much timber like this would have been rejected in the old days, since this was classed as a defect!

very tasty Zandy, is that a local builder the timbers look like Tasmanian ?
I believe so Woks, I stole the photos from here - http://tasmaniantonewoods.com/gallery/#!
Black Heart Sassafras for the top and back, and possibly Tassie Blackwood for the sides. No idea about the neck materials though.
EDIT: He's actually from Melbourne - http://www.bluestoneguitars.com.au/html/HOME.html
cheers Zandy, wow had a look at his gallery of guitars he's been building for a long time to get to that standard.
Guitar/Wood porn warnings need to be issued BEFORE you post NSFBB images like that Zandit. Just Sayin'.
So, what would you guys reckon is the main common factor/criteria that would determine if a guitar is beautiful or not, I'm thinking that it has to be that the look of a guitar has to be easy on the eyes, as being the main factor/criteria, it also has to exude some cool-ness.
Doc, looks. That's it. This thread is for eye candy. That's subjective and all, we all have different tastes, so if you think it's beautiful, it qualifies.
Whatever guitar turns you on...
Yes, I guess it's a personal thing, what one guitar player would call beautiful, another one might call ugly.
Back to one of my favorite Luthiers, Mr. Mark Hatcher.
Heavily Bear Clawed figure Sitka Spruce top
Back, sides, center strip of the neck, and other touches are African Padauk. Mark refers to this timber as "Flaming Bacon!"
Binding on the body, neck and headstock is African Blackwood.
Bridge, Fretboard and custom made tuner buttons are from Macassar Ebony
25.5" scale length with 1 3/4" nut and 2 1/4" spacing at the saddle
The orchid inlays on the headstock and 12th fret are done in white mother of pearl and pink fresh water clam.
Enjoy!!

Here's another one from Kinnaird Guitars, also from the US.
Bear Clawed Sitka front again, but Quilted Maple for the majority of the rest of the guitar!

Darn it, I just remembered I was supposed to put a warning at the start of all this!!! Sorry Frankie!!!
Gotta wonder if they sound as good as they look?
Probably cost a Motza and therefore would end being show pieces which I could live with if I had enough spare coin to own one.
A lot of these guitars look great in small amounts but most are far too busy for my own tastes - Zandit's recent pictures of the very elaborate guitar construction just has too much ornamentation for me. I would happily live with one or two of the elaborate features, but not with everything being very OTT. The Kinnaird guitar is probably as about as elaborate as I'd go, as it's showing natural materials off to their best effect, without adding too much extra fancy work.
Some of his guitars have such a beautiful and haunting sound. The new owners certainly get their money's worth!
Speaking of money, they don't mention pricing on the forum, but some that are advertised in the market place are easily in the $10-20k mark. Some even more!
Definitely agree with you there Simon, some are very over the top. The craftmanship shown by each of these builders is phenomenal but each have their own specialties and tastes. Some of these are also built to a specific customers request, even over the builders objections.
The customer is always right, especially if they are paying extra!
for a < $1000 guitar this thing is beautiful... getting a Gretsch sized itch now
