It takes Nitro?? Interesting! I'll write down that procedure for staining DB, sounds like you have furthered your research!
Nice bass Ozz, now to finally get Rocksmith and you watch, I'll have the same scores as you bud.

DB, the finish on the neck was applied as per the video.....remember I went to 800grit first and found that too fine. I then sanded it back to 600 again....and I still thought that was too fine as the stain did not go on well.
The body had many coats at each stage with 7 days in between each one. I did them exactly as per the videos at that time. The only scuffing was in between the final coats with 0000 steel wool. (The base coat, intensifying and then final coat took absolutely ages to do....I really did leave 7 days between each coat. The guitar was hung in a room at the back of a double garage. The room had good airflow but was protected from bad weather.)
I tried DW over the top but it would not buff smooth. I even tried a wet sand with 2000 grit and then autowaxes.....still no joy. It was like the finish had never cured.
I play everyday and the neck was starting to show little bumps that weren't present when finished. These then lifted off like wax build up. That was the lifting....they would leave a flat looking gap that would disappear with more use.
The body looked awesome....that is why I wish to try again....but felt unfinished. Even when I hit the body with the random orbital sander the paper still blocked up....like the finish had never cured.
If it takes Nitro...then could I use the DT to bring out the grain in the wood and then leave it to cure for a week and just go to a couple of wipe-on poly coats......very thin? If nitro works then you would think that poly would have to. I loved the grain that Dingo Tone brought out and I want to keep that. Naughty Oil does that well, and wipe on poly not so much.....but naughty oil is not robust at all. Poly is nice and hard. Wipe on is really thin with a 0000 steel wool scuff in between each coat.
I am still undecided about applying the final coat.....was thinking of just doing the first two on the body and just the stain on the neck. Hmmmmm things to consider as my order wings its way East to Queensland.
Keloooe bring it on baby. Perhaps I should start a thread for screenshots of Rocksmith scores on the BASS. Competition means practice and that can only be good. Love it. :)
Be nice mate. You do realise that I am officially an old fart.....52. I picked up a guitar on 28 January 2014 for the first time. I found BASS in about July 2014 and have made a couple for myself since then.
However, a challenge offered and not accepted is sad. I shall have a go....you do realise that it is not a song to which I attach any care. Actually not that flash at all....for me. But here we go. :)
I do not have Hysteria by Muse.....but I do have Hysteria by Def Leppard.
Tried this one from Muse....Knights of Cydonia.....wow head shake there... All Good though.
Haha nice stuff Ozz, did you play Knights of Cydonia with pick up till the end where it's finger? Heheeheheh.... Seriously, nice scores!
Nervous to see how things go now. I have sanded both the neck and the body to 300 (300 something sandpaper....320/340) I did 3 sessions on both with the sandpaper until I was happy.
The Coolangatta Gold and Bloodwood Dingo Tone packs have arrived.
Got of work early today so.....I have hit them both up with a reasonably continuous coat of the stain. Just kept rubbing until it was taking ages to move into the wood.
I have now hung them both and will leave them for 7 days and see how they go then.
Really love this guitar and love the grain DT brings out in the wood. I just want it to set and finish hard. :)
sounds good Ozz, the first coat soaks in and uses about half the bottle.
Is it a similar colour to first time ?
I would say it is the same colour as the first time. After seven days am I required to add more....because it looks great now with just one coat?
