Haha, I wish!
We are moving at high pace this week, just so we can take the pressure off next week and not stress about finishing on time!

Day 2: Part 1
Selected my soundboard timber. Yes, I know, it was supposed to be blackwood but that involves splitting up back and side sets, additional cost and the other selections didn't really do it for me in the end. I ended up selecting a nicely coloured set of Silver Quandong, an Australian native timber becoming more and more popular among guitar builders.

Then I started shaping my back braces

Day 2 continued (this 5 photos per post is annoying!!)
Part 2
Then it was time to workout! This pedestal locks the mold in place so it is perfectly centered on the steel post. A radiused dish filled with 80 grit sandpaper attached is placed over the post and you rotate back and forth until the end blocks and sides are fully sanded to a 15' radius.

We then glue and clamp in mahogany kerfling along the edges

Both sides are done on the back side, it is then re-radiused and then flipped and repeated on the other side

Nice and clean, even if I do say so myself!

Just a little bit hot in the workshop today. Temperature is not too much of an issue, but humidity is critical, not just now while we are building, but for the life of the guitar. It may not seem hot to the locals, but I've just come from weather that tops out at 13 degs C!!!

Please spare us the shots in your budgie smugglers due to feeling the heat and needing a dip to cool down.
Day 3: Part 1
Rosette day! Again, this is also slightly different from my original plans, but that's the beauty of this process. Having said that, this was an idea I had in my stockpile, and Aaron was more than happy to run with it, as it hasn't been done before in his class.
Glued two pieces of blackwood together.

Using a dremel, I routed a shallow channel and inlayed some blackwhite/black purfling using black dyed super glue.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...eb3d34ff60.jpg
Scraped this flat then cut out the remainder of the rosette, placing it on the sound board to check it out

Routed out the channel for the rosette then enlarged it ever so slightly to insert more b/w/b purfling as a final border
This is a dry run first.

This is looking magic!!

We then cut in some slots into our sides to accommodate the back braces and glued the back on.

That's day 3 done. Tomorrow I will thickness my top, cut out the sound hole, and start doing my braces for the top. I may get the top glued on tomorrow.

Just wondering if there is any truth in the myth that most Tasmanians don't know how to swim as the water down there is always too damn cold?
Making good progress at a cracking pace too.
Some bonus shots, we have a local keeping an eye on us. Must be a mate of Deddy's!
