The battery box is all together separate. That little black box has the circuit board epoxied into it and is hidden under the control plate.
As for sounds, not sure yet. I've only had a chance to plug it into my micro Marshall just to make sure it worked. Through that it sounded like crap, but that's how everything sounds through that amp.

Had almost a whole day to myself yesterday. Bliss. Got the last of the setup and nut work done, so that's pretty much it for this guy.

Pretty happy with how it's turned out. Plays well, sounds ok through my crappy testing amp, wifey is nursing a hangover, so no chance of firing up the ampeg. :(
