Just headed back for another look. Might be rescueable, particularly the back and sides, but the top may be coming off entirely.
Will depend if I can build up another few layers of poly to blend in with the feathered layers there already.
I'm not hopeful on that.
The journey to the destination can be difficult sometimes. Keep on forging ahead.
On the positive side, if I do decide it all needs to come off, at least I know it comes off really friggin' easily! :)
What is the clear finish you're using?
(apart from sh**e)
I'll fish out the brand and details later, as a warning to others!
In retrospect i should probably not have even tried to use it, but hey ho. Couple more coats today and it looks like i might be able to get it up to 'mildly disappointing'. I'll take that at the moment.
This is the stuff:

Never seen that before, which might be a good thing.

Yeah, i'm sure it's good for some stuff, but i wouldn't recommend it.
I know the brand from watching a few scale model building videos, but have never used any of their products. I believe poly is supposed to be one of those finishes (unlike say nitro) that really need sanding before the next coat goes (if left too long between coats) to give a key for the next coat to bind to, otherwise you can get delaminating.
