Looks good Doc
Hi DB, not such good advice from your bank as I work in a retail environment where the EFTPOS machine is hardwired to add-on 1.50% merchant fee for Visa & MasterCard once credit has been selected. The only way to avoid merchant fees is to select Cheque or Savings as that bypasses the credit card interchange.
Cheers, Waz.
Hi Doc, 41 pages deep......must be doing this as a thesis for a Phd at Darwin University I suspect???
At this rate you will out do ShazRandom for page numbers but maybe not for the amount of views.
How good does CG look in the flesh. Time to be a bit patient from here otherwise you could risk stuffing things up as most of my issues came to the surface after about 3rd intensifier coat.
I have ironed out the issues with MKII..... I think :p
Well, lets say I pushed it pretty well to the limit on my test bed and so far so good.
After the third coat of intensifyer I scuff sanded with 320 to level out any gribblies and to remove the odd cat and Dingo hair, then applied two fairly heavy coats of final which I let cure for a week before scuff sanding that back with 800.
Then I applied one very thin final coat which is as smooth as a babies bum..
When I checked it today I noticed a few spots I missed so I will give the body a light scuff with steel wool and apply another thin coat.
(Will post some pics tomoz before I apply it)
Hey guys, just got back from my mates place, I think the final coat on the neck has dried sufficiently but I might need to touch-up a few areas on the headstock that I think I missed, the body feels like it is almost dry but I reckon I'll give it some more time before I even think of applying another coat of intensifier.
good stuff Doc the forum were about to send out a search party haha
you are learning with the patience with the curing, good work !
Lol...I was just about to send out a search party too...so they could look for me, getting myself lost is probably my best talent....hahahaha....
I've had lots of people tell me that I have alot of patience, since I've got both my Ibby and LP Studio back from my mate's place it really doesn't matter how long it takes to finish the Strat.
I am never lost, always getting told where to go
I'm so good at getting myself lost that I'd give a Magnetic Compass a nervous breakdown.
The Credit Union I'm with has been the same.... select Credit, and you don't get charged $1 for each EFTPOS transaction. There are some merchants, usually with a higher sale price at the checkout, who do charge that extra percent fee, though I don't come across them too often.
And, Doc, good that you've got your other guitars there, so you can let the CG slowly dry.
With merchant fee surcharges not all retail outlets set the same threshold before it kicks in. For example tap n go is up to $100 at supermarkets, at places like DB's not so favourite BGSFOS, and so forth. Once you trip the 'floor limit' merchant fees can be applied and sometimes without warning. Best to select Chq or Savings to be on the safe side.
Maybe Bendigo absorb this for their customers which is pretty rare for any financial institution as they are heavily reliant on fee based income to drive bottom line profits. CBA, NAB, ANZ, Westpac and others could not post such record profits with out passing on all the various fees and charges hence why they do it and don't give a damn.
I'll have to check my credit union statements... haven't done that for some time, I admit!
It used to be the case you could get X amount of free EFTPOS transactions per month, then you were charged $1 per transaction. Maybe that has changed in the last decade as we're becoming a cashless society?
I have a feeling that Bendigo does absorb a lot of charges.
Unlike the big four, they are community minded and actually value their customers..
How many other banks give you a call wishing you a merry xmas??
I really don't understand why people still go to the big 4. I was with the yellow and black bastards and moved to Heritage. No regrets, they're great.
I've also heard good things about Bendigo and Bank Of Queensland too. Small banks offer so much more AND a cheaper mortgage.
Why give your money to the big 4???
Did you know in most countries it's illegal to hold money done by electronic transfer over the weekend and holidays? I asked once why the computers got the weekend and holidays off and just got a dirty look. Think about how much interest they got on all the money "in limbo" over the 4 day xmas break......
Dedman, the counter chick/dude doesn't make the rules!
hahah classic, looks like Doc is victim of thread jacking, we should start a new thread about banks and have a good whinge there !
Hahahahaha...I'll second that motion.
I re-installed all the gold locking-tuners on the neck today, also treated the fretboard with some Dingowax too, as well as installed the bone nut on it, the neck is ready for use, I'll post a pic of the neck shortly.
And here they are, a couple of pics of the finished neck with it's bone nut and locking tuners installed:

You're obviously a 'sandal' man, not thongs...?
neck looks great Doc and part of the body we saw. You should be thinking about a headstock logo as I like to put at least one or 2 clear coats over it to protect it.
@ Dedman, love your artwork, that pic got my attention !
@ Muzza I'm a thong and sandal man, what is your preference ?
Queensland = thongs. (That's Aussie thongs, not British thongs - been caught out by that before...)
I'll have to wait till I can afford to buy a couple of ink cartridges for my printer, and the special paper I need to make the headstock decal, maybe next fortnight when I order the new pickups and the stuff from real Tone Music.
Need to do some repair work on my laptop so it can re-charge it's battery again, had to dismantle my Desktop PC so that I could put a new mattress on my bed this afternoon, the PC needed to be moved to accommodate the new mattress, might get the PC set up again later on tonight.
Update:
Last night I did some work on my Laptop to get it back up and running again, as it turned out, the Laptop was actually fine it was actually the plugpack adaptor that had failed, more specifically, it was the DC plug that fitted in the socket on my laptop, so I set about fixing it, three wires had broken off inside the DC plug so I soldered them back on making sure I got the polarity correct, after using some heatshrink to cover the exposed electrical connections (not dangerous since there was only 18V DC involved) and to strengthen it a bit, I plugged the plugpack into my Laptop and plugged it into the mains, the Laptop booted up normally and the battery started charging up like it was supposed to.
So how's that?, all it took to render my Laptop useless was just three broken wires.
My new Digital Camera should work fine with my Laptop since it's running the same Operating System as my Desktop PC.
Anyway, we are back up and running, and we can get on with finishing my guitar, still waiting on the replacement DT CG Final coat MkII to arrive in the post, the body feels like it's dry enough for another coat of Intensifier, it's been about 6 days since the first coat of intensifier was applied so I might see if I can apply the second coat this afternoon.
sounds good Doc, again I was about to call out for a search party !
you are getting beaten by Shazz's build diary is page 46 but don't think it will take long for you to overtake her build diary size Doc !
Hahahaha......you guys must have been really missing me, Wokka.
I sent out a search party to go look for me but they ended up getting lost themselves, might have to have a few stern words with them, if only I could find them, myself, and a magnetic compass that actually pointed north rather than some vague direction approximating north....oh, hang on.....I made that compass.....*face palm*.....*cheeks turning red from embarrassment*.
I'm actually not really too worried if ShazzRandom beats me to the finish line, given the amount of trouble she's had with her build she deserves to win.
nah Doc, Shaz's build is almost finished and your thread seems to be hijacked pretty regularly, you will get to 60 pages is my tip
Update:
I just got my new bottles of Neck and Body Final Coat in the post today, so, I'll be able to make some more progress on my Strat build this afternoon so stay tuned for more updates.
sounds good Doc, you are 4 pages behind Shazz's build diary LOL
Good going Doc!! hurry up will ya and get some pages up...
nah Doc trust me this diary has heaps more legs, 60 pages piece of cake !
