I'm getting thirsty here in the NW Woks, another Chimay Blue Label please!
Shazz, just out of interest, have you tested both of your pickups since you potted them? If not, use a multimeter and/or try connecting them one at a time directly to the output jack (without any other components), hook up an amp and check for any hum. You can even give a guitar a strum and hold the pup near the strings for a sound check. It may be worth doing while you wait for your new parts.
Umm, in regard to the NW; where does one find the catalogue of sins for which we are banished to said NW?
I mean is merely being in the vicinity of BGS a warehouse sinful,or is only purchasing from BGS a sin. Is it a sin only if materials purchased from BGS are incorporated into a build? Please advise o keepers of wisdom!
I assume you haven't had the problem I have just encountered. Wired mine up only to find the pickup cables are too short to reach the pots. Not sure if I have been sent the wrong pickups. Did your fit okay?
I did a template but must admit I didn't include the pickups. 😣😣. Oh well back to the drawing board!!!
by DBs rules this is how you make a guitar:
get body and neck, sand until you think it's done, then do it again, 5 times
ensure the neck has no frets
glue neck to body, titebond, if one day the big green shed stocks it, don't get it from there...
add very thin coats of dingotone, let cure
cure longer
wait, nearly ready...
done
add hardware, nothing by hipshot...
use no other products, enjoy
Yes, I have just ordered some more wire. Have you fitted the machine heads yet? I found the screws to be quite long and care was needed when pre drilling the holes. Also the screws are quite week. Already one head sheered off with very little pressure applied. Now I have to drill out the screw shaft.
Yeah I had some trouble with the fixing screws. 2 heads threaded quite quickly, but I don't think I pre drilled the holes enough. So I just got some other screws. 2 of the heads may have snapped off... But it kinda looks cool and is still fixing them down properly :/
Hey Shazz and Chaz,. are you guys lubricating the screw? I don't know whats best but I have a candle in my tool kit and ALWAYS give the threads a good waxing before I screw them in. Might help.
So I know I am yet to finish this build, but I am set on this next!!
LP - maple top in this finish! *froth material* purple to black fade
I am thinking possibly black hardware though!

Candle or some soap for waxing the screws, i do it to every screw.
Hi Shazz, a bit sad to hear about your wiring troubles and the guys have already given you plenty of good advice.
For the Purple LP stick with chrome as Black hardware may make things look too dark overall. A bit of contrast can make a world of difference that is why black on light or bright colours looks so good.
Hey ShazzRandom, whatever you do, don't get discouraged by the problems with the wiring, keep persevering and you'll eventually have a win mate.
Good tip on the wax... I now remember being told of an old retired builder who used to rub his nails (not finger...) through his Brylcreemed hair before he hammered them into hardwood joists and bearers.
Now just waiting for new wire! Attachment 9034
good stuff Shazz, was your wire ebay order an Australian store ? If overseas you may be waiting longer !
what are the pots 500k ?
Have you upgraded the switch as well ?
You are so lucky not to be the first female to be thrown in the Naughty Warehouse, lucky DB was in a good mood that day !
purple guitars are cool, check my build thread on my sisters guitar... unfinished...
Shaz i use 22AWG Gavitt Cloth covered Pre tinned 7 strand push back wire on everything except long runs, for those i use 22AWG Braided shield push back wire and heat shrink them.
