I think there was just a big run on them, they are pretty popular.
Removed same as LP's :-(
Rickenbacker are even more litigious than Gibson have been.
Thanks guys - I suspected it might be legal...
Hmmm.. must have missed that one. Shame.
That's a curious thing, as there seem to be a couple of recently added hollow body 6- and 12-string guitars available now.
They've got paddle headstocks. The bass had a pre-carved one which whilst not an exact replica, was close enough to recognise what it was supposed to be. It's a small distinction, but enough to bring a legal case.
Good point, Simon. I played a '73 4001 exclusively for 20 years. Love them, and would enjoy building one, but not high on the priority list. (already have one)
Having spoken with the fine people at that company, I can certainly believe they would be persnickety enough to file a lawsuit.
Trying to get genuine parts on a Ric is a mission in itself. I think I had to provide serial number on the 4003 I had a couple of years ago when seeking replacement chrome treble pickup surround that had rusted out. Lucky for me they were dumping remainder parts stock out of Melbourne and I scored the last one in the country at that time.
