New ES-12GQ build
Here's my new ES-12GQ. The figured maple is much nicer than expected.

Beside it is an eBay special, that will be the guinea pig for all the finishing steps, and will eventually become my travel practice basher.

I plan to try to bring out the grain with a dark stain, and finish using Stew Mac lacquer in a Gibson style cherry red.
Any shared experience would be appreciated.

That quilted veneer looks top-notch.

That ES 12 top is nothing short of spectacular. Great score. The neck seems awfully bland in comparison though? I would have though it should have block markers or matching binding?

It does. It will get a black face, and hopefully a nice Gibson style logo.
I could do a fake binding. I'll have think about that.

The neck is nice and straight, but there's a small gap on the lower side of the joint.

I need to smooth the binding. Here's a closeup end on. What's the best method? Scraping, sanding? I'll have to be careful, since it is not above the top in all places.

Here's another shot of the binding.

I need to fill in some cracks along the edge. What do people recommend? I've ready acrylic wood filler is good for near the binding. It should accept the stain, but I don't know if it will sand out. Maybe I should try to fade the stain as I get to the binding.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
