Sticky oil on the neck?

I've recently finished finishing my neck with the dingo tone neck finish. I masking taped the fretboard when i applied 4 coats, and when i took the tape off today, there is a sticky residue of dried oil on the sides of the fretboard. i have tried sanding, steel wool, and wiping it off. please help!

Hey RHCP123 - how much oil are we talking here? What sort of fretboard - is it bound?

May help with some solutions to getting it off.

Was there a solution to getting the sticky masking tape goop of the edge of fretboard? I have the same problem now.
