Hipshot bass tuners
I just got a set of Hipshot light tuners. They come in two sizes 14mm and 16mm. I got the 16mm. It turns out that my hole is 16.9mm, however, so they fit really loosely. Will I need to fill the hold and re-drill? Any other alternatives? Did not anticipate this!

I have only encountered the other way around where tuner post diameter was larger than pre drilled holes.
0.9mm is quite small but big enough to cause rattling. Maybe wrap some plumbers tape around the post to increase combined thickness/diameter. The locating screws and front bushings should also assist with holding things tight and in the correct place.

If they are the HB6 type with the screw-down bushing (plus washer) and one locating screw on the back, then once the bushing is tightened up, they won't move. As Waz said, you can wrap tape abound the side of the bushing so that it sits centrally in the hole, but once tightened up, it's the pressure from the bushing that will keep it in place, and the rear screw will stop the tuner from turning.
I just measured my screw-on bushing diameter on my set of HB6 Hipshot Ultralites and it's around 16.8mm. Mine have the 1/2" post. If you've got the ones with the 3/8" post, then I'd suggest seeing if you can swap them for the 1/2" post versions, which should fit the holes perfectly (there's almost always a very small amount of play unless you've filled the hole up with lots of finish).

I thought, to snug them, up I might take a page from the Book of Barden and use veneer ;-)
I just re-measured. I have the 1/2" HB6's. The outside of the bushing measured 15.8mm. the diameter on the hole is 16.7 or so. Almost a mm bigger.
The only machines I have installed before were the stock ones on a PBG kit where the bushing was really snug.

Weird that the same product can be so different!
Lots of small strips of veneer glued vertically should be enough to hold the bushing centrally. In theory, three at 120° to each other should do it, but you'll probably want to add more.

I'll try that. I got a sheet about 1x3 feet of veneer figuring I might have a lot to correct...
