Es-1g completion??

Hi all, i recently bought a semi completed Pit bull Guitar and was extremely excited to tuck into finishing it off. It is an ES-1G semi hollow kit. The previous owner has glued the neck in place and stained and cleared the body and neck.
Eager to get stuck in this past Sunday I started installing the machine heads and before i knew it i had completely installed all hardware.
As you can imaging i was super stoked as this is the first ever guitar build for this guy and the difference all the shiny bits made to the guitar itself made me extremely happy ...but then i realized its wiring next!

I have started on the wiring of the pick ups, volume and tone pots(which means i have read and searched for as much info as available) but as I'm not that way inclined and like things to be laid out in a straight path before i undertake something i am uncomfortable with, i thought it best to seek some masterful help and advise?

Does any one have any info or wiring instructions that i can mimic with regards to this kit? As a fan of comics Pictures help and are welcome.

Hi Mr Bogz, I have recently completed one of these as my 7th build project and acknowledge how tough it might seem straight up.

Best advice is to make a cardboard template a similar size as to where all the control knobs, output jack and 3 position switch sit on the guitar. Next thing is to place all the parts in relevant spots (punch holes in the cardboard) so that you can attach wires and solder up external to the body. Handy tip....run wires from the controls back up into pickup cavities as it is easier to join wires there and cover with heat shrink than go nuts trying to feed short bits through to be soldered whilst working in and around the lower F hole.

Best to take your time and ask questions if you get stumped.

Once all wiring has been soldered, take a break and have a very strong cup of coffee as the next part will really try your patience.....feeding everything in through the lower F hole.

At some stage buying some aquarium tubing is the best investment as that makes it so much easier to help feed the components into correct places. For the Jack socket you will need to wrap a bit of masking tape around the end of tubing so that it will fit snug inside where the guitar jack goes.....feed it down through the jack socket hole (rear most one) and don't forget to place washers and spacers on tubing before inserting jack socket. Tubing lengths of about 20-30cm is recommended and once fed through from on top it is a good idea to place washers and retaining nut on the tube, top side of body so that you can wind a bit on the thread when component is somewhere 'in place'. The tubing fits snug over the shaft ends of the pots and if you take the tip off the 3 way switch it should hold good on that too however as the switch position is very close to F hole you probably won't need to use tubing.

On mine it probably took 5 or 6 attempts to get it done as parts kept dropping off or there was too much thread protruding and needed more washers/spacers. Also need to do the 'tap test' at each point to make sure it works and also still works as you tighten up those retaining nuts. Nothing worse than skipping these steps and then end up with no sound and also no idea where to start looking for the problem. Checking as you go helps reduce the guesswork.

For the pickups, plenty of space to feed excess wires underneath humbuckers inside the pickup cavities.

Almost forgot to mention the one important wire that is so easily overlooked....earth wire from bridge. Suggest having a look to see if there is a small hole at the bottom of bridge post hole or stop tail piece post hole on the side nearest controls as that is where you will need to feed and anchor an earth wire. On mine I ended up having to drill a skinny hole in from the bridge pickup cavity, and trust me, a job best done way before the body is all nice an shiny as way to easy to damage.
