Charcoal stain?

Hey riffmasters! Looking to stain my project bass a charcoal color. Not quite black, not quite grey. Any recommendations?

I'd go with doing multiple coats of very diluted black wood stain, stop when you get a few shades lighter than you want because the clear will darken it several shades.
