A New Hobby
Hey All,
I've been playing for 36 years now and have been fascinated by guitars for all my life, but I've never sought the knowledge on how to maintain them properly and I'm a little embarrassed it has taken me this long to start getting to know them better than I do. I'm looking forward to finding out what it's all about, so I've just unboxed my ES3 and am trying to work out how to get started. I bought this kit for a few reasons:
- I saw the Cult play last year and realised I really wanted a hollow-body....
- I have a few guitars already and was going to struggle to get approval to buy another one
- But a construction project is somehow un-objectionable!
- I've long wanted to know more about how my guitars are put together
Hopefully this will be the first of many, I've got a road-map of models in mind!
Cheers

welcome DVOB1.
It's a great past time, very addictive but also very rewarding. Just when I think i have built all the kits I wanted I come up with an idea for another theme on another kit. :P
Start a build diary and post your progress, we love pictures!

Hi dvob1 and welcome to the forum.
Plenty of knowledgeable people always dropping by with helpful tips and advice so you are already in good hands, just need to wait a little while for them all to make themselves known.
Has your kit arrived yet? Always a good idea to thoroughly inspect everything to make sure all the pieces go in all the right places with no obvious major issues. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) the kits are not made by a Chinese division of IKEA so be prepared for minimal instructions which is probably best as any Chinese instructions translated into English don't seem to make sense either. This is where all the forum members can come to your rescue. Only dumb questions are the ones not asked.
Wishing you good luck and will be keen to see how things progress.
Cheers, Waz

Hi dvob1, I'd like to welcome you to this great forum, there's nothing to feel embarrassed about because you have just taken the first steps towards empowerment, after all, we have all had to start somewhere along the line, including myself, enjoy your time here and above all have fun.
Looking forward to checking out your builds.

Welcome to the forum dvob1! The good thing about guitar construction projects is that you can order in the components piecemeal as opposed to a large delivery turning up ;)

Welcome dvob, It's all about the build. Once you've done 1 the next idea just pops into your head and then you're hooked

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone :-)
I have received my first kit, I got it a week or so ago in anticipation of having some time off, so I held off on opening it or looking for instructions until now. Of course reading through these forums for the first time I'm realising what a mistake that was! I didn't purchase any sandpaper and now don't have time/patience to wait for some ordered from pitbull so I'm tempted to make do with what I can find at Bunnings. In any case I'll get a test construction done and start a build thread.
Thanks again

You can get good paper at the big green shed, but lots of cheap nasty stuff too.

I'm heading to the local one now to see what I can get
