new kit on the block

hi every one,
my name is Rafael, I live and work in Spain.
i have just bought my first guitar kit ES-V5
ls there any one there that has gone through the process of building this particular model??
Initially 3 questions:
-the bridge sit on top or goes glued on?
- the pick up bar is straight, but the top where it sits is curved, how do you solve this?
- how do you go about the shielding with a hollow body?

while I get some feed back from you, I'll carry on sanding :)

Hi Rafael,
welcome to the forum. I can think of 2 blokes that have or are building the ES-V5, try sending a PM to Dedman or AndrewOsborne.
So if the pickup surround is not curved you will have to buy one or sand a curve in the supplied one if it's flat. I think string tension should be enough to keep the bridge in place but that's a guess. You will find out when it's strung up and tuned up. There is no way to shield the inside of the hollow body but you can reduce interference by using shielded wire.

If you look at the build diary section of the forum, you can search for that model and see what others have done. There are a few from memory.

so he may be able to guide you a bit with your questions, I think Dedman has also put one together and might be able to advise.

Hi Rafael, welcome and congrats on picking a nice kit.

Yes, the string tension holds the bridge in place on these, be careful not to bump it too hard once you have it all set up or there goes your tuning and intonation. thats the way they made em back in the day. I have never managed to knock mine out of postion so don't worry about it.

I used a different pick up on mine but still, its only a tiny bit off and the plastic does flex a bit so there wont be a huge gap. Again, thats how they made em back then.

Shielding....you don't. you guessed it....thats how they made em back then. I get very little noise from either of my hollow bodys that aren't shielded. I use shielded wire when ever I can even when I can shield cavities
