Glue Spots...

Hello, I just did a great stain / coloring first coat on my new ES 2V. However I 've found just a couple of small :D"glue spots" that didn't take the stain properly (and I really did sand with 150, 220 and 320). I was wondering if I can still use the "wire brush" method to help remove these imperfections before I apply any more stain? Also, could I use something like "GOO GONE, which is a liquid for removing glue and other items from the surface without harming the top.

Hi BigGreg, seems to be common the glue spots. Can you please post a photo of the affected areas ? You can try both methods, I'd try the Goof gone first, as the wire brush will require further sanding. Obviously you will need to restain the affected areas.
I just checked out the kit and it shows a quilted veneer, has yours got one ? be careful if the glue spots are on the veneer (which I presume) they are very thin so go easy on the sanding. If the glue spots are close to the edge alot of people put a dark burst edge to hide it

And be careful because the glue can also be absorbed by the veneer. In that case the only option is to make a dark burst (as in my case) because the brush or sanding method will not help.

I have a feeling, Kick, that in your case, the definite pattern round the edges indicates to me that the glue there has seeped up from the underside of the veneer, so that it is fully saturated with glue in those areas, rather than a smear of glue that has been left on the top.

I think that is usually the case, I tried to dig some out on the strat I did and it went all the way through

Sometimes there is very well disguised filler that only shows up after 1st stain coat and equally a big PIA to fix too.

Thanks All for you help. As always you've been great. I was able to lightly brush it with a wire brush and then wipe with the GOO Gone and most has come off and now the stain has taken. One small area near the lower portion of the "F" hole still is showing. I'll continue to work on that. Again thanks for the quick response.
