Tony first Scratchie
Have been gradually accumulating tools, templates and timber for awhile now and decided to finally have a crack at a scratch build.
Decide to do a strat style
Used a piece of Camphor Laurel for the body ( there will be no silverfish on me for awhile).
Routed out the pickup and and neck routes before cutting the shape on the bandsaw. Then refitted templates and pattern routed the edges to clean it up a bit.
Using a pitbull neck for the moment till I can make a neck to suit.
Using hardware and pickups (SD Hot rodded set) that I have lying around.

Routed the rear out once shaped and tommorow begins the fun job of sanding, sanding, sanding.
Not sure whether to leave natural or colour. Have a small amount of DT Karinji left so will do a test on some offcuts.

Hi Tony, that last shot is showing some more mellow colour tones suggesting a natural finish could look good, particularly with the maple fret board.
Cheers, Waz

Looks lovely. Did you start off thinking HSH, and then decide just HH, or do you still plan to rout out for a middle pup?
-
Thanks Guys,
Waz leaning towards natural
Simon , yeah originally looked at the single but went for the two humbuckers ( mainly because blade switches shit me)

You could add the single and go with two three-way toggles. Switch 1 selects between bridge and neck and switch 2 selects between middle and switch 1. Gives all seven combos.

So looking at a blackwood neck and have a piece that I can to cut into possibly three neck blanks.
So for the luthiers, from my thinking the top face in the picture would be the top (fretboard) of a neck?
-
Nice work Tony,,,did you get the body blank somewhere in Brissy?

Hi Tony, I saw pics of the build on FB but missed this thread. Coming along very nicely.
I've used blackwood for neck material and fingerboard. You could always glue wings on for the headstock of the neck. What are the dimensions of the blackwood piece ?
