Repaint opinions
Looking for opinions on a 'restoration' of a Jay Turser SG to add to my son's collection. He wants something different, so we're going with Ford Mustang Amazon Green with an oiled neck (the half near the body is highly flamed maple), and he wants a racing stripe.
White or gold? (Keeping the black half bat wing pickguard.) If we go gold, it'll have black or gold hardware. White will have chrome or nickel.
Haven't decided on the pickups as of yet. Trying to get one more guitar painted before the weather prevents it!

I found this picture on the web of a green SG with with white racing stripes (obviously no pickguard). I think the stripes are too wide on this (or maybe you wanted them running diagonally across the rear bout like on some Fenders). Trying to picture it with gold stripes and hardware and personally I think white and silver would be better.

I reckon Gold stripes and Gold hardware would look best with Green whereas White Stripes & Chrome may look a bit too stark.

Here's a Green/yellow (couldn't get gold) stripes guitar with gold hardware. Not sure whether a gold stripe works as well as yellow does (maybe because I'm not a huge fan of metallic paint guitars)

Yeah Simon, I see your point and maybe the width of those stripes is more the problem.

Same guitar in green/white for a direct comparison.

But it's HockeyPop's choice, and what he and his son likes that's important.

True, and the Green/White combo did look better.

Takes your lines from lines and reference points on the guitar, such as the sides of the neck, the width of the pick ups, width of the bridge and they will tie together.

Life slowed my progress down, but I finished the setup on my Amazon Green SG build/repaint/restoration with 30 minutes to spare before Christmas! Here's a couple photos (one after paint that shows the color more accurately). I lightly treated the neck with 3 coats of Tru Oil gunstock oil (the neck has some decent flame on the half nearest the body -- will add pics of that later, I forgot to photograph it), and may add additional coats if my son prefers it shiny.

The pickups are GFS Surf 90's, a Dynasonic-style pickup that I am extremely happy with deciding on. My son will be using this guitar in a Roots of Rock show and a Pink Floyd show that he's performing in with the School of Rock, where he's been playing the last 3 years or so.
Merry Christmas everyone, and safe travels to all!
