Peter Janis of Radial Engineering Ltd. shows Mitch Gallagher the JDX Direct-Drive Amp Simulator and DI, which uses filters to create an amp-like tone from a direct guitar signal.

Now that is a neat idea.

I sometimes play straight through my desk into headphones as a "practice amp" that doesn't annoy the household. Might be a cool tool get it sounding less clinical.
