First build - Part 3
Finally got the candy on, 5 coats in all of Port Red, so under normal lighting it has the colour of red wine, but in the sunlight it really lights up, not that I'll be playing outside much.....
I took the painting handles off to check the colour match between the body and the neck. At this stage before clearcoat I could blow in a little black with an airbrush around the joint to blend them in if there were any problems. Thankfully all's good, the colour was fine, but there now is so much paint on it the neck wouldn't fit in the body socket!
After about 30 mins of careful sanding all is good.

Now to flat and polish and some more additions to the pick guard assembly and I should be close to being ready to put it all together.

nice job with the candy as candy can be a real pain to get even what clear are you going to use becareful what clear you use as i did a candy on one of my les pauls but clear was still soft 3 weeks after i sprayed it ended up sanding it off as was just to soft i think a 2k would be the way to go but nice job so far

I used a Septone Acrylic Clear phrozin, the same clear I mixed the candy into. I sprayed four thin coats of clear on allowing about 30 mins between each coat.
I've got both neck and the body in a warm room at home now and there is still a feint smell so I'm going to leave another week before flat and polish.
I think I'll try Enamel on the next project so I can get more experience with different finishes.

ok be careful with it super careful when you lay it on anything when i did my candy because of all the clear coats it took ages to harden i found to hang it for at least 2 to 3 weeks before you polish it the longer you leave it the better the shine, your doing a pretty nice job with spraying candy is not easy to do
