Hi Mez welcome to the forum. What kit have you purchased does it have a veneer top? Get some good quality sandpaper 120 to 320 or 400 grit. Sand with the grain start on 120 if it's rough or usually 180 grit ok to start on. When I get to work I'll link some sanding videos
