In Diddly Doodly
Ok, I admit it, I have more imagination than skill some times but what the hell.
So with my first kit almost done and a couple of others to arrive I had this pile of parts. Tele bridge, pick ups, loaded switch plate, bridge and p90 from a JR-1 and a pair of humbuckers from a GD-1 (still coming but can't be too far away now, but I've already got their replacements).
I don't have a lot of tools, just hand tools and a drill press.
I don't have a lot of wood working experience although I did renovate my office, it was mostly basic boxes (shelving, benches) Hmmm, boxes.................
Boxes, indeedly diddly doodly.........
"yea man, boxes!"

So Bo told me go build a box young man!
"Adam, send me a bolt on Gibson neck please!"
I scoured the net and found the dimensions of the Gretsch Bo Diddly box. Now, its a solid body, but I don't have a router...........boxes...... so mine is going to be a hollow body with a meranti frame and some left over ply from the renovations 2 yrs ago *that's called seasoned*
So new document in photoshop, I think by now you know I crossed over to the dark side many years ago (they have timtams) so I pieced together bits of clip art for a day of the dead cigar box look and had them printed as waterslide. This will allow the wood grain to show through them, it was either that or hand cut stencils and air brush it, bugger that!.
So here's what my mid 20's nephew called the "F*in most bad ass guitar art ever " LOL

* yes I know the bridge and pick ups will cover part of the graphic, thats in keeping with the cigar box look.
Total outlay will be the $50 for the neck and the $6 for the 2 chrome grills, and $8 for the decals.
So...some advice.
Which pick ups should I use? Tele, Humbuckers, the P90 or a combo of which? ( I do have an unused 4 switch aswell as the 3 way in the plate.) Realised I have a spare neck mini humbucker as well
I wont be starting this for a couple of weeks as i have Tradies coming next week to put up new guttering and paint the outside of the house.

Ahhh the sheriffs guitar, good project idea.
We are sort of on the same track except iam going to building a Diddley Bow over winter for a bit of fun, lots of nasty chinese pickup yeh.
-
hey Dedman cool project. Might as well keep the design of Bo Diddly's axe in the pic, they look like a pair of P90 size pups and put a 3 way switch on
-
I was going to try for a close copy but don't have the skills/tools to do binding, or route a solid body. I do have the Futuramic Rocket Oldsmobile badge badge though!
-
Dedman you are going to build a box out of plywood aren't you ? no router required !
-
Yup!... Just gotta decide on which pups to use. I realised have a spare neck mini humbucker as well
-
Those pickups look like Gretsch Filtertrons

Oh My ding a ding dang-illy doodily, a Bo diddly fiddilly guitar-iddilly!

That should look wicked Dedman, Bo Diddley invented the distinctive Chord Riff rhythm for the song "Who do you love".
