LP-1S "Poison Ivy"

Hi there,

So I've been planning this build for a while now but i've just ordered an LP-1S kit.

It will have a maple fretboard which is pretty rare on a Les Paul as far as I'm aware.

Hardware will be gold bridge tailstop tuners... with black coverplates and knobs.

I'm going for a bright green stain (all over the guitar, not just the top but excluding the fretboard (ofc))

Somewhere along the lines of this but without the burst effect and the headstock and back of neck will be green too.

For a headstock decal i'm gonna have something like this though i haven't quite figured out how i'm gonna do that yet. (ideas???) (my gf has an arts degree so she's pretty skilled with a paint brush)

I've just ordered some red green and black Stamp ink and some tru oil from a local store and i'm going shopping for sanding paper tomorrow. so i can start experimenting on a loose piece of wood until my kit finds its way over here.

The plans look awesome joe, as does the headstock decal. I would suggest a vinyl headstock decal. Forun member AndyPort can do them for you. I do love the idea of the maple fretboatd on an LP! Inspired choice. I'm already subscribed to this thread dude!

@gavinturner, she's dead set on hand drawing the heastock logo I tend not to get in the way when she gets a creative idea stuck in her head. Trust me i learned the hard way.n for better or worse we'll see how it goes

Messing around with ink mixtures ended up adding some yellow to lighten the green. Still waiting for my order of tru oil to arrive so i'll know how it will end up.

Headstock design will be after the ltd ec series (part of the reason i'm building this kit is cause i can't afford an ltd ec1000 deluxe xD)

Thanks for the positive responses guys, I'm loving this community/forum and I've barely scratchedvthe surface. Finally gave in and installed tapatalk lol.

Tru oil should be in tomorrow or the next day, kit has been sitting in Perth auspost "facility" doing god only knows what. 😓
Let's just hope we can make her look as good as she does in my head.

I'm wondering how I'm gonna keep the stain from mucking up the binding any tips?

Hey Joe,

I always cover the binding with 6mm vinyl tape from 3M. It's pin stripe tape I think. Anything that gets on the top can be scraped clean.
