welcome to the forum Lucky Country (we should just call you Australia !)
RC-1 build sounds great. Start a build diary and do a mock build.
Let us know your build plans and show us some pics please !
Ask as many questions as you like
Best of luck with the build
Welcome LC, plenty of recent RC1 fans here, enjoy the build and show it off

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Wokkaboy, I chose Lucky Country as it seems apt for where I now live in central Australia, only 15 KM from Uluru (you can see it from my front window) but at least 450km from the nearest major centre, Alice Springs. It's also my favorite song by the greatest band of all time Midnight Oil.
I'm still working out what type of finish I will apply to this build. I'm not sure if I should go with a paint or stain finish. I had intended to go with paint but when the kit arrived I really like some of the figure in the grain on the body so started to consider a stain and oil or clear coat finish.
If I were to stain it with say a one of the Dingo tone finishes, how do you protect the binding from soaking in any stain? I assume masking it won't stop it bleeding into the edge of the binding?
Also can anyone point me in the direction of a link to a video or a sound clip of a finished RC-1 in action? I'd like to get a feel of how it will sound.
Cheers LC
Hey LC, can't help with the RC-1 as I haven't built one. Saving the binding is relatively easy and worth the effort. I followed the instructions in Gavs post on Preparing the Binding BEFORE applying Dingotone http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...ead.php?t=1895
after polishing it with steel wool, I wet sanded with 2000 grit and then applied painters tape to the side of the binding making sure i ran it exactly on the edge. I stained my LP1-SS with about 5 coats of Karajini red stain, so it was really dark. when i removed the painters tape, what little stain had made it to the binding I removed with 1200 grit then 2000 grit.
Welcome Lucky Country. At least you shouldn't have humidity issues affecting your finishes.
Hey Fretworn, Thanks, unfortunately the dry comes with it's own problems. I moved out here from Brisbane 5 months ago and could only fit one of my guitars (a Maton 325 series) in for the move. Within 7 weeks it had dried out to the point it was unplayable. It took another 4 weeks to get the timber back up to the right moisture content and the guitar playable again. It's a constant balancing act keeping it in it's case and keeping it around the recommended 45-55% humidity level when the air is so dry.
But it certainly will help with the drying between coats averaging 38-41C out here at this time of year.
