French Polish

My understanding is French polish is fairly weak, i.e. cannot take the knocks that a guitar suffers in use. 45 years ago I helped my father French polish a grandfather clock. Many very thin coats applied by hand to produce the final result. We dissolved the insect wings to make the polish.
