Hello from Ontario
Hello everyone,
I've been looking for a decent quality guitar kit and came across this site on YouTube and eBay searches. The weather's been crap this weekend so I've been reading through a lot of the forum posts about the different kits and it's great that there seems to be such an active group of member posting questions - and especially their build diaries here.
I'm from Peterborough, ON (just northeast of Toronto) and just recently started getting back into playing my old Yamaha acoustic again but decided to try and learn some rhythm/comping/jazz style playing (I play trombone in a couple big bands and like the type of guitar playing it calls for). So.... after one failed attempt to create an account on here (I guess the username I originally picked must have been banned?), I'm here to learn all I can about the building process and to ask for a bit of advice......
Being totally new to guitar building (but with lots of woodworking experience) and a total novice with electric guitars and playing jazz, does anyone have suggestions on which kit would be a good first build that would fit the style I'm looking for? The LP's and telecasters seem like easier builds but I do love the look and jazz focus of the hollow/semi-hollow styles.
Anyways... it's nice to be part of the forum and I'm loving all the builds and finished products I'm seeing from these kits.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi there, I'm new too. I thinking along your lines too. This will be my first kit build as well, I plan on getting the ES-1G.

Here is what I think is a fantastic build of a 12 string.

Here is the link to the kit: pit-bull-guitars-es-1g-electric-guitar-kit
There's lots of inspiration on here, and the people seem really cool.
Have Fun!

Hi Peter, welcome to the forum. An ES-1G would be a cool jazz guitar but quite a difficult build for first build but the forum can guide and help you through the process.
If you aren't that confident then I recommend starting on a tele/LP/strat are good kits to start your new hobby !
best of luck and look forward to seeing your build diary

Welcome Peter,
I have to agree that a hollow / semi-hollow would be quite a challenge for a first ever build.
I read somewhere that Les Paul originally designed the LP solid body as an answer to feed back problems from hollow body guitars whilst playing jazz. Whilst the LP is now sinonomous with Rock, it was designed by a jazz guitarist for playing jazz, as well as other styles.
It's just my opinion, & I haven't built a guitar for thirty odd years, but hey, my opinion is only worth about two cents anyway 😉
