JM-1 build
hi all, my JM-1 kit arrived a little while ago so I wasted no time tearing into it, I was pleased with the condition and
overall finish of the guitar upon un boxing, only had one little bit of damage a dent on the fretboard, but thankfully
not too bad. Spent a full day giving it a good sand and trial fit, all good so I hit it with some primer then sand, sand
and sand some more till it was ready for paint.
The neck I decided to go over with vintage amber and I really like the colour of tit now, gave everything a couple light coats of clear didn't want a full on gloss look, pretty happy with the look of it.

Actually looks fairly blue in the pics but its a greenish blue in the flesh. All standard apart from the Ernie
ball cobalt strings.
I will be doing some mods to it soon as I really don't like the sound of the pups, seems very tone'y similar
to the p90's in my SG, these are nice on a clean channel but are utter crap with distortion which makes up
the majority of my preferred playing style, been looking at some Tonerider pups but still undecided whether
to go for them or something I already have here.

I've always though the pickups are all too close together on this model. The bridge pickup needs to move a lot closer to the bridge and the middle pickup also needs to move "south". It almost has two neck pickups and a middle pickup.
-
hey Fretworm, yep your right on the money there, the middle and neck I find are not even worth switching to
just a muffled type of noise really.
-
looks awesome Jagstang, got to be happy with the results !!
-
that's a good looking build,nice work

i keep toying with the idea of trying to custom order one with 2 p90s in it, but i dont have the space to build another kit atm. should add them to the catalogue though i reckon, adam said they can get em from the factory

So I have decided to replace the nut with a bone one as the plastic one has the strings sitting at different heights, I'm also thinking that 2x HB is probably the way I'd like to go, just need to see if I can get a suitable pick guard or a blank. Had to replace the jack as the thread had stripped out.

bone nut is a good choice

So I've changed the bridge pu over to a fender one i had in the parts box, definitely made an improvement in sound, only a temp measure till I get something else, definitely doesn't look as nice as the polished pu. The nut is next followed by a set of roller string tree's.
