Further Advice required.

After my last post re: "gluing neck advice", and the advice of the kind folks on this forum and reading and watching all the tutorials, the job is done, hopefully right.
Moved on to installing the Pots which I had wired previously and tested; all OK. Thought I would try the methods on the forum, of plastic tube and installing through the F hole. This worked for me to a degree, pulling the jack plug to its required position, but the tube came of 2 pots which meant I had to start again. With the jack plug in position, I was able to position the remaining pots by hand ( helps if you have small hands) with a piece of hooked wire. It only took 1/2 hour, just hope my soldering stood up to the shuffling around. Will test on the weekend.

Now to the problems at hand: Placing the knobs on the pots they sit up so high, I would like to have them closer to the top deck. Is it Ok to shorten the knurled section, or do I try to find deeper knobs? Know there is long shaft and short in pots, but don't particularly want to make a new circuit and refit them again.

Looking at the tailpiece, it looks slightly bent, although hard to see in photos. I dont know if this is the way it is supposed to be, it is further forward in the top E string position. See photo.

Hi Jeff, Encountered the same issue when I built mine. So some more pain involved. The best way is to remove the pots and use either a nut or spacer between the pot body and inside of guitar so only the required height pokes through to enable enough space for top washer and nut. Then knobs will sit around the right height.

Hi Jeff, vh is right about the pots. If your knobs are pressed on all the way in your pic, extra nuts under the body may be better than using washers or similar, you have some adjustment with the nuts. Are the domed nuts on the tailpeice both screwed all the way on? You may be able to wind the low E side down more and unscrew the high e side a bit to square it up. Be careful taking the knobs off too, they can fracture in the centre if too energetic.

Hello Jeff, are these the stock pots? Reason I ask is some pots have different diameter shaft and maybe larger than the knobs hence knob does not sit correctly. If stock pots and speed knobs then I think spacers appropriate.

Thanks for the response; yes these are stock pots, and grudgingly removed them again and packed with washers. Looks a lot better, but another very slim washer would make it look a little better. Will do for now.
Took to friends place for re-testing of the circuit, thought something might of come loose in the "in and out" of the pots, but every thing is fine. I can now proceed.:)

Still swore a few times 'tho when the washers fell off.:D:D:D
