Pest's LP mk2

Hey guys,
Some of you may remember the LP I built a couple of years ago. To be honest I loved it but there were some pretty darn easy mistakes that didn't make the axe as nice as I wanted it to be:
- The finish was badly applied
- The binding had some finish on it
- The wiring was a bit rushed and was cutting out a lot
- The headstock was horribly sanded
- I ended up not liking the fact that the burst that was intended was not blending in and was very rough
- I ended up using superglue to hold some parts like an iron fist, which made the gunk from the garage and my hands stick to the guitar

So here's the plan:
- Strip the finish back to bare wood (hopefully not tearing up the cap)
- Fill the wood where there are dings and potholes
- Get a new wiring harness to rewire (I still have the pups and switch so that is good!)
- Apply a new finish
- Clean up the bindings
- Clear coat the neck
- Clean up the hardware and fix the superglue that I accidentally spilled (I seriously don's know why I used it...)

Now I only have 80, 220 and 240 grit papers, thinking of getting 120 and 180 for the cap.

The plan for the finish is a burst of DingoTone Coolangatta Gold, Outback Sunset and Nullabor Ochre, with Nullabor Ochre back and sides. The neck will be clear with a clear headstock if the filler looks good enough when its done, or ill do a black headstock.

Why do you need a new harness? Couldn't you re-use the pots etc but just wire them properly the second time?

Sounds like a good project Pest. I absolutely love lemon burst Les Pauls so I'll be keen to see this one turn out.

yeah good luck Pest, must be good working on an axe again. I saw some pics yesterday of some of the sanding. Definitely need the intermediate sandpaper grits you are missing.

Hey Nick, I buggered up the soldering of the pots and they are cutting out in certain positions, maybe I overheated them.

yeah replace the pots Pest, doesn't cost much for 4 pots

Yeah an @ $4 each from fleaBay and $4.50 here its worth it for the good ones

yeah the bourns pots on the PBG shop are pretty good

Sounds like a good plan Kelooe, burned many a pot in my younger years. Generally through using a low wattage iron and revisiting your earthing solder joint a few times. I find if you plan your joints before hand so that you only solder once and tin the wire /wires before doing the joint you can do a good quick joint. An iron around 60 watts does em In seconds.

Yeah I use a 60 watter and it's great. Iron on, iron off (Mr. Solderari)
