This is the first picture of my SG1F guitar build.
I have just laid out the different parts to check that I have them all.
I have also added a photo of what I would like the guitar to look like when it is finished.
Not sure how close I will get or whether it will work but it is a good learning curve.
The picture is upside down and I am not sure whether it is attached?
Trying to learn how to post threads with photos also!

Hi bargeloobs - not sure about the head stock ..... didn't know you could change the shape and not sure what the classic Gibson style is?

Still trying to come to grips with the color at this stage - and whether to stain the neck and if so what color.

You can find a template for the "classic gibson headstock style here: http://www.australianlespaulforums.c.../Headstock.pdf. This is the "winged" shape you see on Les Pauls, SGs and other Gibson guitars. I've attached a picture of a typical SG headstock for reference.

You can shape the headstock yourself with a scroll saw / jig saw and a bastard file. It's a little intimidating at first, but you get a much more personal (and better looking!) result in the end.

Yeah like Gav said, it really is worth the effort of shaping the headstock to give it a more personalized feel and at the end of the day you've got an instrument that's truly your own. Hey if I can do it, literally anyone can.
Obviously you're not limited to just a Gibson style shape, it's totally up to you. Just Google "3x3 headstock shapes" and you'll surely find something that catches your eye, that's the beauty of guitar building it's all about getting creative.
As for colour, once again totally up to personal preference but normally if you're staining the body you'd do the neck as well. I'm going to be using Dingotone for my next build, it's a wipe on stain and guys have been getting really great results so far from what I've been seeing.

You don't necessarily need a jigsaw, this is all I use and the final result.
