Hey guys. I got a Tele thinline kit a few years back as a gift so no idea if it came from pb or not. Nice guitar, plays good, sounds great but looks like a pig. I had no idea what I was doing. Had a metallic silver orange paint that I sanded before clearing which I didn't polish. Matte unmetallic orange shite.
So I'm using it as a test bed for techniques for the upcoming ib7. It'll be candy orange front and back, white painted binding and marble sides. Neck and I'll be clear, and the logo will be sprayed on.
So far I've had it timbermated, hung up and had the first coats of primer put on. Let it hang in there shed, came back and it fell of the hook onto the concrete. I wonder if pbhq heard the profanities from there.
Oh well, it's sanded all the dodgy bits out, only drama was chip near the f hole. No more.timber mate and the closest bungggg sorry db, to get more is in Mackay, a 5 hour round trip. Soooooooooo super glue it is.

if the kit was purchased more than 2 years ago doubt its a PBG kit. Plus it looks different to the thinline kit they offer, pickguard is a different shape and has a humbucker neck pup.
Anyway not good to have a hanging fail and it falls on concrete
post some pics and let us see how its looking now

Sounds like you are out Moranbah way Andrew. Theres two of us PBG builders in Mackay.

thats it Lozza and Tony are in Mackay so you can have a PBG get together north Qld !

Yeah buddy fnq party. Yeah I doubt it's a pbg kit hence in this forum.
@tony, yeah mate. We are in beautiful moranbah.
@wokka here are a few pics. It's primed with 2 mist coats of white. Its just the cheapo sca acrylic but it comes out prety nice.
Tomorrow will be sanding the white back, binding, then black the sides out, marble them, silver the top and back, and hopefully get some candy going.

So silly me thinking I can get a good job with a rattle can. Nope. This is just the first mist coat of the gun. Still acrylic but with a compressor instead of a can. Shite, no wonder the pros use this gear. I was lucky on a recent trip to mackay, shipping for a compressor. All suitable compressors for hvlp guns were way too expensive. Enter supercheap. They had a 60l compressor, a 1.7, and 1.4 gun, a .8 touch up gun and a pressure reg, hose andbfittings for $199. Giddy up!

1st black coat on sides looks good Andrew, I saw that kit at Supercheap advertised for $199, sounds like a good deal. Plenty of work to do but will keep you busy !

Marbling done, now to let it dry for a half hour and tape her up, silver th front and back, clean down and candy her up. Spraying with a compressor is so much quicker as well. Most of the paint is ending up on the guitar and not bouncing off like with the cans.

Here it is with the tape removed showing the white. Not sure if I should candy over it as well, or take it up and have the contrast of the white against the orange.

looks great Andrew, how you doing the marbling, put paint on a plastic bag and dab the sides ?
Hope thats not your foot with nail polish in the 2nd pic haha
I'd leave the binding white and see how it looks, can always go back later and colour it if you want
