hi guys,
Received a new DC Jnr kit on Friday for my friend James who wants it finished in butterscotch Wudtone and tortoiseshell. Everything looks good with the kit, and there's some great grain in the rosewood fretboard. There was quite a bit of play in the neck pocket (there always is with these DC Jnr kits) but I managed to get the mock build done and the screw holes drilled in to the neck without incident. String alignment up the neck looks good and the string height at the low frets is bottoming out with the bridge at its lowest height setting - there will be no need for shims.

All in all an auspicious start to the build. I'm going to try and limit myself to 240 grit this time around and see if this improves the Wudtone application ;).
Interestingly this kit is a little different to the last Jnr kit I built. The neck seems to be seated much deeper in the pocket (the strings only just clear the P90 at lowest bridge height) and the kit shipped with speed knobs as standard. Great improvements to an already great kit!
cheers,
Gav.

only 5 builds Gav, what are you going to do with all your spare time, have lunch or dinner at the Bavarian cafe ?

Definitely a cool bit of grain in the rosewood. Looks like the sand at low tide. Very nice, Gav.

hi guys,
A little more work on the Jnr this week. I finally got the body sanded to 240 grit and pore filled with "Blackwood" timbermate. I was using "Maple" colour with basswood up until this point, but I always felt that it was too *pink* in colour. This Blackwood on the other hand adds a real caramel hue to the basswood and I'm really digging it. Should compliment the butterscotch Wudtone very nicely.

I also managed to get the headstock shaped using my standard Gibson template.

Wudtone is next!!

Wow digging the colour the timbermate gave it. You could almost clear straight over that.
