The Gypsy rises.
Double Cut Set Neck
Finanly got off my A$$ and put the Deep Colour Coat on.
Damned stuff really brings out the glues spots. Especially the ones I couldn't see, well except one.
Not sure what to do with one. It looks pretty deep and if I start trying to sand it out it may never stop.
The deep colour coat really popped the grain. Could not see any grain on the deck prior to Deep Colour Coat
Not sure if I should give it a light sanding before the base coat or not.

GD. Found light brushing with wire brush (BBQ cleaner brush) on glue spots moved most glue spots or at least let stain into wood more even after base coat applied. Light rub with 0000 steel wool between coats to get rid of high spots.

love the grain PK, is this a PBG junior kit ? yer bummer about the glue spot, presume you mean the one on the bottom near where the strap pin will go ? I'd try and wire brush it and do another deep coat over it

Hi Woka, Yes this is the Pitbul Kit. I seems to have a maple laminate on the deck. the glue spot looks to be a crack repair. so I probabaly won't go too hard at it. Maybe try and cover it with colour the other glues spots are under the horns where the seams are so I will jhit thenm with my drum/drill press sander. Gently of course. :D
Hi Yammy, there is a light glue spot on the back I will try your method on.
Headstock is blacked and the frets oiled
Cheers PK

Hey PK, sometimes these basswood bodies do have excellent figure, I'd be surprised if its got a maple laminate, have a look in the pup cavity to see if its a cap.
The headstock looks great, looks too black for wudtone stain, what did you use ?
Good luck removing the glue. Its a common spot for cracks to appear on the bottom edged where the timber has been joined. Keep going with deep coats and it may not be very visible

Hi Wok,
nah mate definitely a laminate. Join seams are on the back , single flat white surface on the deck. the "Yellow" is the same just that it's Lam Glueing was of a lower standard as when I sanded it it the glue gap kept growing bigger

To All
Oh Oh. People new to kit building should take note that I put colour on the edges that edge onto the exposed joins.
Like the neck joint the pickup route and the control cover route. the reason for this was so that if there is any small gap. it will show the body colour. If this is left un-coloured you run the risk of having a little white stripe whare you really don't wnat it. ;)
Cheers PK

Hi Wok, sorry forgot to mention the Black is Fist Twatson.. Japan Black
I like how it is so dark but you still get the grain coming through
