Hi all, its always exciting starting a new project, enthusiasm is through the roof. I only started sanding this kit yesterday afternoon and am very happy with the progress. First up I carefully sanded the cap with a 180, 240 orbital sander being very careful not to sand through the thin cap. Next I ragged a black tint on to highlight the flames in black. Then sanded the black tint with a 320 orbital being careful not to sand too deep

Next step was to apply 1st deep coat of amaranthine. Got the headstock cut, a pretty standard Gibson shape. Then got a coat of ama on the headstock. I was cheeky and got a 2nd coat of amaranthine on the body so will let it cure for 2 days then more steel wooling. Can't wait to see the next coat on the body and will start sanding the back/sides for burning sun, then a mahogany stain to deepen the colour to look close to Popeye's current Les Paul build.

Wokka, that's looking brilliant man! You really nailed the black in the flamed figure, and the purple is looking better and better the deeper it gets. This one is going to be amazing. Do you have aramathine on the back of the neck too?? What 'black tint' did you use? Colortone?
cheers,
Gav.

cheers Gav, the tint is just a Feast Watson black proof tint. I was planning a mahogany colour for the back/sides so was planning a vintage yellow neck goes well with the purple headstock/body top

Nice one as always! You should consider doing a burst too! Might look very nice!
-
SimpleOne I did try cherry flamenco burst and it didn't turn out very good, so I went all over with amaranthine. I should have planned it more as I made the outer ama burst too thick

Looking very nice so far.
