I was over JB hiFi the other week and seen a nice (ish) looking red strat like yamaha.. was a floor display being sold off as is for 198 bucks (100 of reg price).. took a closer look at it then and it had some damage around the body, so I offered the saleman 140 for it. He said go away.. long story short, well went back a week later and there it was down to $140n.. so I offered the salesman $100 and ended up getting it for $110 with 2 guitar stands and the small amp .. I think I got a reasonable deal here, and should be able to restore it to showroom quality and get some bucks back to fund the next pitbull kit for myself.. (spent the dollars I was saving up for the next one on this)
What do you guys think? good deal or did I waste my savings?

Gav's the one with a habit forming of stripping cheap guitars and primping them up. Depends on what the body's made of (ply / solid), but even to get a small, new amp & 2 stands for $110's not too bad...

Hey AJ, some decent damage to the body, there's alot of work ahead to strip it all back, what sort of finish are you planning once its been rubbed back ? You will need to fill the scraped wood damage.
From the 3 photos (I can't see the condition of rest of the guitar) looks like thats still a good deal with 2 stands and a small amp !
The Gavmiester is more qualified to give an opinion stripping back cheap strats !
Good luck AJ

Think it will turn ot ok, have now stripped the gear off of it and sanded 99% of the paint off. looks to be a solid bodied guitar, with a lot of fillers used originally. With luck, I will be able to use the woodtone I have that I did not end up using on the LP. a bonus already is I have managed to sand out the major dents. here is the original full pickie of it. The setup was SSH the humbucker at the bridge.

great for the money, and who doesnt like a project...

yes look forward to seeing how the body came up sanded and what sort of wood is underneath.
In the photo the G string looks a bit thick - like a wound string, but its probably the average resolution of the pic. Good luck AJ think you got a bargain and a good project between PBG kits

Have removed all the paint from the body now, I used a home made scraper to do that. Now onto the major sanding. Has possibilities .Seems to have had a thin veneer on the top and back.
