Ok the subject of tonites discussion around my place is why is the nut called a nut.
My answer was because it holds the strings in place at the head of the fret board ,like a nut holds things in there place.
Now this answer isn't good enough apparently LOL,so if anyone can back me up or give a better reason WHY a nut is called a nut please do :D
I also reckon if I am right I can get another kit ;) .. Now I shall go back to shaping my nut

Etymology
The word may have come from the German Nut (pronounced "noot"), meaning groove or slot.
I reckon you can get the next kit now :P

So that means that the "noot" grooves hold in the strings like a nut holds an item in place, work with me on this ... ;) And the winner is Tim ..pay up Linda ,Tim wants an IB 5

Tim - would go with you on this - my Ibanez bass has holes in the nut at the base of the grooves for the string - to hold the string in better I guess...

Come on guys!!!!!
You only have to look at the Floyd Rose to know Tim is 100% correct and deserves his IB-5!
