Tl1a
Hi. My TL1A kit arrived this week and looking forward to getting started. Have done a mock build and all looks pretty neat. Might need to take a little out of the control panel pocket so the panel sits snug against the pick guard. But we'll see how we go. At this stage thinking I might paint it Daphne blue.

Sounds good, I’m just on my second build, learning so much and trying to take it slow and enjoy the process as much as the finished product.
Good luck.

Daphne blue is a great color for a tele!

I've sanded and sanded some more. 240 grit > 400 > 800 > 1500. Happy with the result.
So now its time to source some paint. The exact name of the colour is hard to pin down. I think its actually Sonic Blue lol. Anyway, I'm after the powdery blue version, like Julien Baker's Tele in her tiny desk concert. Is there any general advice on where to source paint in Australia?

I think sonic blue is a little lighter than daphne blue. Here's my take on it*:

The paint is Argo Blue from MTM94 which is a graffiti artist acrylic rattle can paint. Mine may be a touch darker than daphne blue but by my count there are about 6 colors of MTN94 that range from a little darker than daphne to a little lighter than sonic. If you don't like those colors they make 217 total colors.
I know TD uses it, so it's definitely sold on the other side of Australia. Here in the US it's mostly sold in art supply stores. In Australia it seems to be popular with surf board builders.
*BTW I found cream colored knobs that match the color scheme on the bass a little better, but don't have a more recent pic ;-)

Yes!, thanks for the paint tips fender3x. Sonic is what I want then. I'll go on the hunt.
Love that paint job on your guitar! I like the painted headstock. Looks great with the relief of the natural timber their too Also like you painted the face of the guitar but not the sides. Kind of makes the colour pop a bit more. Might take inspiration from you there.

Found my MTN94 colour: https://www.mtnaustralia.com.au/prod...nt=38031682945. They call it Barceloneta blue. I'm calling it Sonic blue.
Thanks so much for the tip fender3x.

I get my MTN94 from Jackson's Art Supplies (there is one quite close to me).

Thanjs TD! Found a supplier in Adelaide too. Can I promote them! https://daklinic.com/
Super helpful staff

If they have decent prices and helpful staff they deserve to be promoted ;-)
FWIW to any US users who surf by, I get mine at Blick Art Materials. For any Colombians surfing by they also sell it at Panamericana ;-)
Interestingly enough, their headquarters is in Spain. Not a coincidence that your paint gets it's name from a neighborhood in Barcelona.
Kind of cool that you get yours at a skateshop. I knew that people used it on surfboards. Makes sense they'd use it skateboard on decks too ;-)
