Treble Bleed Circuits

Since I had to pick up some electronics bit and pieces for the Varitone build, I decided I would get some bits to have a go at a treble bleed circuit. I decided to mount some treble bleed circuits to some alligator clips and make a treble bleed tester kit.

Researching online, there are a lot of different value resistors and capacitors used.

I have created:
1. 110 k resistor with a 1 nF capacitor.
2. 150 k with 1 nF
3. 220 k with 1 nF
4. 150 k with 2 nF
&5. 220 k with 2 nF.

Now I just have to test them and play.

Has anyone on the forum tried any of these, or have any other suggestions?

Straight up 1nf with 150k no foolin'...it's tried and trued with all kinds of pots and pup combos. No need to put yourself thru the stress of trying out every combo. I have and it's not worth it, trust me. Unless you run vintage wiring, this is the only one you need.

I have bought a stack of the 1nF and 150 K.

Out of interest, would you now automatically just put them into all your circuits, or do you only use them when you are not happy with the pup sound?

Nah, only when you turn down the volume and it sounds like the treble is missing. Depends how you play in terms of using the volume pot to ride the gain on the amp. Also if you run vintage wiring (rather than modern) you won't need a bleed [emoji1690]

This is good to know. I have not used treble bleeds...but have been tempted mostly because I know they exist. Will wait until I hear a need for one to put one in ;-) ...and will most likely use BD's if I do.

I have put a 1nF and 150K combo into my Mr Scary guitar (1 humbucker at bridge, Vol, Tone). It made a huge difference.

I feel a need to make a treble bleed tester circuit to make it very easy to test. Maybe with one of my rotary switches!

Ha! Those rotary switches are versatile. I have *thought* of a bunch of uses...but so far I have only put one in a guitar. It's in a two HB strat body and I use it to switch between SC and HB settings. So the guitar looks like it has normal Strat controls, but instead of VTT it's V-(4 way rotary)-T.

I like the idea of using a rotary-in-a-box to test ideas before putting them in the actual circuit. I would be useful on pretty much any build.

Yes, this could be very useful. Maybe after the coiltap and varitone project!
