Glue in Neck Shims

This is a follow up to my post below on 'First Build- Neck Bridge Angle'.

Basically, I am building a glue-in neck SG style guitar and the neck angle needs to be increased so that a flat edge on the frets clears the bridge by 1-2mm (there is a fuller explanation in the above mentioned thread).

I've sanded the heel of the neck joint but various people have suggested using shims as there is less likelihood of ending up with an unevenly sanded surface etc. . I've got no experience of doing this but I'm happy to give it a go. I've searched the forum, and on-line and there doesnt seem to be much info on how to get started. Most shims videos I've seen seem to deal with bolt on necks. So....

Where do I buy shims from?
Do I need the angled variant or should I use one or more and sand them to 'feather-in' to the existing surface?
Is there a preferred method for doing this?

Basically any tips here would be very welcome!

Hi 5 thumbs,

you can get shims (0.25, 0.5 or 1.0 degrees) from any of the guitar building stores or ebay or similar. Most seem to come as a set of 3.
Or Simon B put a post up about making your own shims from scratch (I cannot find the post!).

I would assume with a wooden shim it just gets glued into place when the neck is being glued in.
