Starting a build diary for my ST-1M kit
I've taken a quick look at the kit, and all seems OK so far.
I currently own a Cort Stratocaster-type guitar of unknown age.
I've upgraded most of the hardware over the years, Gotoh locking tuners, StewMac Golden Age pickups, Wilkinson trem CTS pots etc.
However it does have a couple of problems, firstly some of the frets are quite worn, and secondly it is quite heavy (around 4.5 kg).
The body alone weighs almost 3kg, whereas the raw basswood body of the ST-1M is only 1.75kg.
So the plan is to put the hardware from the Cort onto the ST-1M, and the PitBull hardware onto the Cort.
This is assuming that everything fits, or can be made to fit.
I hope to try to refinish/relevel the frets on the Cort, I think that there is enough metal left to do this.
My idea is to finish the new guitar in a similar fashion to David Gilmour's Black Strat, using rattle cans for the body, and wipe-on poly for the neck and fingerboard.
Anyway, on with the mock build.
