I've been working on a flamed maple top flying V kit, and as usual am behind with pics and diary.
I started with the top about 6 weeks ago.
Here is the flame after I popped it using black Keda dye, and a wet rag to wash off.
Learned a lesson though - wet rag and thin veneer - veneer bubbled up a little in one spot. However, a clamp soon got it back in place and it stayed down - so all good.

I had decided on green. Deep emerald green top and British racing green / forest green body.
Obtained Keda dye recipe for deep emerald green. The yellow element simply would not dissolve Just got big reddish lumps. Hours and hours trying. In the end I noticed that when I washed the mixing cup to try again, whilst washing it out it kinda got green around the undissolved lumps - so bunged the whole lot in and shook for about another hour then experimented diluting it.
Ooh it looked a bit bright !

BUT ... whilst not really the deep green colour I wanted. I felt I could live with it.

Headstock seems OK too.
Just a quick dusting of Nitro on it prior to adding logo.

That green has come up pretty nicely really. Brighter probably suits the style of guitar anyway,
I like it too. The maple looks great.
A polished clear coat will add a bit more depth to the green, as a rougher surface will scatter more light snd appear whiter. But it looks fine as it is to me.
Green seems to be the trickiest dye colour to get right on wood. But I like the way it’s turned out.
Yes - it seems a tough colour. But - I think it is now OK all in all. It has acrylic on it and has been sanded to 1200. Should look quite nice with a good final buff and polish.
