Hi guys, my name's Sam and I'm a fulltime musician/studio owner in Perth WA. I recently received a JMA - 1 kit and I'm about a month into it. I'm usually the most impatient person ever and am prone to throwing things across the room if it's not going well :rolleyes: but for some reason I've been 100% calm building and finishing this thing... and I've made more mistakes doing this than anything I've ever done! Here's the story of where I'm up to so far ..

So I decided to spray it a seafoam blue kind of colour using rattlecans and it didn't go well. I primed and painted it (after sanding for what seemed like hours) and it just didn't look good. So I stripped it, sanded it, primed and painted it again... and it still looked like crap. I think the ash just didn't like the paint, plus I'm a terrible painter as well.

While all this was drying etc, I shaped the headstock with a jigsaw, designed and made a decal with my Cricut vinyl cutter plus dressed the frets. All of this was pretty easy, the neck is dead straight and the frets were all really good, there wasn't much to do.

So after the spraycan debacle, I decided to stain it. I grain-filled the body with sanding sealer, sanded it lightly and applied some Rust-o-leum Vintage Aqua wood stain and it's going on great. As of today I've done about three really light coats, wiping off the excess and letting it dry for a couple of hours in between and I'm very happy with how it's looking. I think I'll let it dry for a day or two and then lightly knock it back with 0000 steel wool as I quite like the look of a bit of the wood showing through.

So, so far it's been a really fun and challenging project, plus my five-year-old has taken an interest in it which is great... my 18-month-old likes standing on it :D

Nice work, this was my first kit as well. Still gets played a lot, but it's gone through a few iterations since I orginally finished it.
Same for me.
I did this kit and it would have to be my favourite.
I like the blue. I have not used this stain before. Does it need a clear coat over the stain like other stains?
I’m planning on using Tru-Oil on it once I’m happy with how the colour is.
I've done this one also...and painted it several times already.

Hi , I have he same kit but I can’t find the wiring diagram to connect the posts to the p ickups. Any help?
