First PB Build: Butterscotch LP Jnr

Just received my first PB kit couple of days ago, very happy with the quality of the timber and machining.

Started in working on it straight away.

First coat of DT Butterscotch, loving the grain popped up by the ebony.

Hoping to do a hardwood veneer for both the pickguard and headstock, anyone have any good resources on where to source?

Also, anyone experienced with the Butterscotch, at oeast a week between coats?

Doing some of the wiring work while it rains today. Been a while since I’ve done any soldering and it shows. Getting there though, hopefully it works.

Nerveracking moment 1: cutting the headstock shape.

I don’t really have any experience with woodworking, but I know once the cut is made there is no going back. This was probably the bit I was most worried about, but it came out okay in the end. Combination of rasps and a coping saw, and I’m pretty happy with the shape. Small chip came off the front, but it glued back in well, and will be hidden by a veneer anyway.

Received my veneers the other day, thinking they are definitely too thick for the headstock at 3.2mm so might go with one of the samples I got.

But managed to make a pretty nice pickguard that I’m quite proud of, and a rear plate for the control cavity. Still needs a lot of sanding and bevel to the edges but the shape is there. Getting used to the rasp and the saw, though still not great with the saw.
