Hello,
Not sure if this is the right area to put this, but I’m interested in making my own electric guitar bodies (necks at a later date) and I’m unsure on where to get woods.
Where can I get the more popular woods such as mahogany, ash, alder e.t.c in WA? Preferably north perth as I’m based around joondalup area.
I’m thinking austim? Anyone had experience?

I know this isn't 'local' to you, but these guys are really good to deal with and will ship it to you no probs.
The website is really only a general guide to what they have, it doesn't get updated as much as their stock.
Just send a query based on what you can see there and they will help you out. They probably have other stuff if you don't see anything you like.

They specialise in Australian woods. I’ve a gorgeous chunk of Sheoak which was sourced through them.

If you are selective, you can find nice quarter sawn tas oak, at Bunnings. Alpine ash (tas oak) is superb tonewood. Flatsawn cut and laminated into a "quarter sawn" piece is also good!
Original Fenders were pine.... Just saying :).
But not for long. A very soft wood soft so it dented far too easily. Especially with a thin nitro finish rather than a thicker poly one to help protect it. They cost a lot of money when they first came out. At today's price the 1950 Broadcaster (originally US$170) would now cost US$1824. That's currently AU$3148/£1565. So somewhere in-between a current US Professional and Ultra model. For that sort of money, people expected something that would last a bit longer. Hence the quick switch to ash and slightly later, alder (for solid colour guitars), when ash got relatively more expensive.
Funny you mention that, I been thinking about making a pine guitar, semi hollow jazzmaster-ish style with a danish oil finish. Still a very valid option.Quote:
