Strat build - wires too short to fit routed cavities?

G’Day guys, I’m currently doing my first pitbull build - a stratocaster.

I’m trying to fit the pickguard onto the body, but the yellow wire appears to be too short to fit into the routed cavities - refer to the attached photo.

Any thoughts on how to address this?

Only real way is to extend the length of the troublesome wire. Find a short length of wire and solder it in. De-solder the yellow wire from the switch,. tack solder your new extension wire on to the yellow wire, cover the join with a short length of heat shrink, solder the new extension on to where the yellow wire used to go... Job done.

The electrons will not know the difference.....

This will be my first time soldering in a new wire. Any recommendations re where to buy such wire? Bunnings? (I am based on East Coast Aust).

Try Jaycar... they have all you need..... Wire, heatshrink, soldering iron, solder, and handtools.

The first rule of soldering: heat the object, not the solder.

For this kind of work, a "third hand" tool is very useful. One of these will save you much frustration.
There are a range of different types, and they're as little as $15. Mine is an "octopus" style and provides lots of flexibility. (no pun intended :p)

These things are extremely easy to use and provide a joint as good or better than solder.
