· Is the choice of finish for the style of guitar appropriate
· How well has the finish been applied

Posting some pics of my first ever build. It’s an EX1 with some upgrades on the electronics and hardware. Was a 6 month labour of love but I’m happy with how it turned out and it’s very quickly become the axe I reach for first. Now about to plan the next one...

Thanks! I hear ya on Explorers! They really do have it all - complete rock machine but still classically beautiful. The main thing for me tho is how comfortable they are to play.

Hi all, here’s my entry. ES-12 with mahogany body. I did a few alterations like the headstock shape, as the “Gibson” shape was way off centre so I chopped it off. Then added some mahogany strips for a bit of character. I also added a gold output jack and a gold truss rod cover to go with the rest of the hardware. I was going to go with a straight color on the front but the amount of glue around the bindings needed to be covered with a burst.l hope you like it.

My first kit JB4. 3 months of love, blood & sweat thru summer.
Complete stock kit. The basswood body was actually 7 pieces jumbled together, I have never spray painted before so I continued on with the stain plan. I have grown to love each & every join, grain change & high n low spot.
Finish is orange Jacquard Basic Dye stain with Tru Oil final finish on body, neck & headstock. Lemon oil on fretboard.
Plays beautifully & the sustain is long & strong.
Huge thanks again to the members of the Pitbull Community for all your help!

So - judges have been busy - we have a result!

So to the comments....
Peter Lenoury’s - Ex-1.
I really nice Ex. The racing stripes have come out really clean.
nice looking explorer, missing a headstock logo to say you built it and a G type truss rod cover will look better. Sure it's a fun axe to play !
Great roadworn look, cool pickups. Love the racing stripe look and blacked out hardware . Be proud and put your name on it.
Nice example of an EX, classic with a twist. Stripes are nicely done although it looks like the stain has marred the binding in places. Would have loved a pic of the back as well. Very nice first build.
Gotta love an Explorer and this one comes in Mahogany with a bound top & neck with block inlays. Tough textured timber that is not completely flat and still showing lots of unfilled pores. Nice colour and looks like a SD pickup upgrade in Bridge but a build diary may have provided more details on what other electronics were also upgraded. Solid effort for 1st time entering GOTM.
Inspired colour scheme and design, bravo! Simple, slick and solid build.

Wayne Mumford ES-12.
So much to like about this guitar. The finish and the marquetry on the headstock are awesome. I’m not convinced the “paddle pop” headstock shape suits the guitar, but everything else is perfect.
classy build tobacco burst and gold hardware works every time. Interesting headstock design and the gloss finish looks nice
Great build with a lovely finish, subtle burst and warm tones look great, with a nice gloss. These things are enough of a challenge thanks to the electronics, but youve gone 12 strings as well. Nice job.
This thing is just gorgeous. I love the colours, it really works perfectly with the grain and the subtle burst on the top is nicely highlighted by the binding. The headstock is a little busy for my taste, but it works on this and is a work of art in and of itself. The gold hardware is exactly right for it. For me, the only flaw is the logo looks a little understated in comparison to the rest. Well done.
Love the Honey Burst with Gold Hardware colour scheme. Headstock inlay is a bit fussy for my taste and must have taken much patience to get right. Good to see a logo plus extra points for that gold truss rod cover.
Faultless. Magnificent. Bonus points for overcoming the build issues with some inspired innovation. Very tasteful and stylish build.

Emu flats JB-4.
Great finish. It’s hard to believe you got that finish with a stain.
striking colour looks great on the jazz bass. Again no headstock logo and I prefer coloured headstock as per body but that's a personal opinion. Cool build
Great looking bass, with a classic look. A slick machine, nice build
A great red JB. The red plus white and chrome just look made for each other. Neck and fretboard look great and I like the headstock shape. Shame there's no logo, it deserves one. Really nice build.
Top effort for a 1st build. Nice clean and shiny finish and really like the subtle rounded off headstock shaping where a logo would have added that finishing touch. Looks more red than orange in those pics which contrasts well with the white scratch plate.
Cannot fault the body or neck finish, a really excellent back-to-basics build. I donlt know any bass players who wouln’t want this in their arsenal.

Wow, thanks very much guys, I wasn’t expecting that, especially with the other two well made guitars. Well done Peter and Emu, I hope to see your next creations soon. I guess I will have to think hard about the next one.

Hey what is the 12 string headstock like when the guitar is strapped on ? Doors the head feel heavy?
