Standard plastic 5 string nut on the EX5 was not helping with action height and spotted another forum member who had a rather different looking nut on one of his builds and apologise for not remembering specifically who or which build.

Here are the before and after shots....

Last shot shows how the nut height can be easily adjusted with 2 small Allen grub screws. Awesome and took no time at all to set up that end of the neck.

The nut is made from some type of composite plasticky stuff and was bought on eBay from an Aussie supplier who seems to have since stopped selling them. It is most likely a Chinese copy of a Warwick Just A Nut III 5-String Bass 45mm SP W 30245 III TRH which are not cheap. The following hyperlinks will take you to a few places that might be able to ship to OZ or other parts of the globe...

Even though it is not bone the sound is still much better than with the standard plastic kit nut. The biggest advantage comes with having a 5 string nut that has an easy to adjust height, and that can be adjusted many times after being installed due to change in string guage, playing style, etc.

I highly recommend this part for 5 string kits.

Just beware that 4 string ones advertised on eBay from Chinese vendors are not as wide as stated. I have a spare 4 stringer kicking around that is only 38 mm wide and thankfully seller refunded in full due to incorrect product description.

Cheers, Waz
